Curriculum
Popstudio
The full time programme takes five years (starting in the prep year), or four years (when you can start in the first year).
After passing the exams at the end of the year, our students get a certificate which states they have accomplished that year’s goals.
In the fourth and last year, students get a diploma Uitvoerend Musicus Jazz of Pop, which specifies that they meet all the criteria of our school. Conditions are: passing exams for all theoretical and practical subjects and organising your own 45 minutes concert (for a jury and audience).
In the first years you’ll have instrument, combo, technique and reading classes. For theoretical training there’s harmony, music theory, ear training, rhythms and pop history. Later on in the training, songwriting and recording/producing will be added to your programme.
During their first two years, jazz and pop students share several courses. That’s why you can switch between those two during these first years.
Level test
We apply this test not as an admission test!
New students for the upcoming school year must pass a level test. So we can evaluate if he or she can be admitted to the first year. Those who do not succeed, are referred to a preparatory year.
The music scores for the level test can be requested at the Secretariat of Jazz studio. The test is conducted on the 12 September and also on 17 September after making your inscription. After this date you can still subscribe if there is place available.
The level test consists of two parts
1. A theoretical test, on jazz harmony (chords, scales, analysis of a piece, modi,..), solfège/ear training
2. A practical test on instrument (teachers are comping)
